FAQ

Hair Extensions: your questions, answered

The 25 questions we hear most at our Makati studio — answered plainly, prices included, with no obligation attached.

1. What are hair extensions?

Hair extensions add length and body to the hair you already have. They blend into your own hair rather than covering the scalp. HEADS works with clip on sets you apply yourself and weft extensions applied in the studio for semi permanent wear.

2. What is the difference between clip in and weft extensions?

Clip ins go in yourself in minutes and come out at night, with no commitment, which suits occasional wear. Wefts are applied in the studio, sit flat and stay in for weeks, which suits everyday length without daily effort.

3. Do hair extensions damage your natural hair?

Applied and maintained correctly, they should not. The real risks are overloading fine hair, leaving wefts in past the move up date, and poor home care. We choose the gentlest suitable method for your hair type and check the hair underneath at every maintenance visit.

4. How much do hair extensions cost in the Philippines?

HEADS hair extensions start at 30,000 PHP. The final price depends on the amount of hair, the length and whether you choose clip ons or studio applied wefts, because the amount needed differs for every client. You receive an exact quote at your free consultation in Makati.

5. How long do hair extensions last?

With proper care, good human hair lasts well beyond a single application, and most clients reuse the same hair across several move ups. Care decides the lifespan more than time does: gentle washing, careful detangling and no heavy oils at the attachment points.

6. How often do weft extensions need maintenance?

Typically every six to eight weeks, because your own hair grows and the wefts move down with it. At the move up we reposition them and check the condition of the hair underneath before reapplying.

7. How long does an extensions appointment take?

Most full applications take a few hours, depending on the method and how much hair is being added. You receive an accurate time estimate once the look is agreed at your consultation, so you can plan the day.

8. Can I sleep in clip in extensions?

No, clip ins are made to come out at night. Sleeping in them causes matting and puts continuous tension on the same points of your own hair. If you want length overnight, weft extensions are the better choice.

9. Can I swim with hair extensions?

Yes, with weft extensions. Rinse with fresh water afterwards, dry the attachment points properly and do not leave salt or chlorine sitting in the hair. Salt and chlorine dry out the hair itself rather than loosening the attachment.

10. Can hair extensions be coloured?

Human hair can be worked with, but going lighter is difficult and shortens the life of the hair. We prefer to colour match by hand from the start, including roots, balayage and dimensional tones, so the extensions disappear into your own shade.

11. How much hair do I need for extensions?

It depends on your own density, your current length and your target length. More is not better: too much hair on fine natural hair shows at the attachment points and is uncomfortable. We recommend the amount that blends naturally.

12. Can I wear a ponytail or updo with weft extensions?

Yes, with the right placement. We plan the attachment points around how you actually wear your hair, so tell us at the consultation if ponytails and updos matter to you rather than afterwards.

13. Can I have extensions if my hair is fine or thin?

Often yes, with a lighter set and careful placement. We assess your own density first, because fine hair can only carry a limited weight safely. If your hair cannot carry a set, we say so and suggest an alternative instead.

14. How short can my hair be for extensions?

There is a minimum length needed to hide the attachment and blend the transition. If your hair is shorter than that, the join shows, and we would rather wait or suggest a different solution than deliver a result you have to hide.

15. Will extensions cover my thinning crown?

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. Extensions add length and body through the lengths but cannot cover the scalp, and added weight at a thinning crown can make it more visible. For crown coverage you need a topper or an integration.

16. Should I get extensions or a hair topper?

Extensions give length and body through the lengths. A topper gives coverage and volume at the crown and parting. If your main concern is a widening part, a topper is the right answer, and the two can also be combined.

17. Can I wash and style extensions normally?

Yes, it is real human hair. Wash gently, dry with care at the attachment points and style as usual within sensible heat limits. We show you the exact routine at the fitting so the hair keeps its condition.

18. Are human hair extensions better than synthetic?

For extensions, human hair is generally the right choice, because it has to blend seamlessly with your own hair in movement, shine and heat behaviour. Synthetic fibre is harder to blend and cannot be styled the same way.

19. Can extensions be reused after a move up?

Yes, that is normal with good human hair. At the move up we reposition the same hair rather than replacing it, provided its condition is still good. How many times depends almost entirely on your home care.

20. Do clip in extensions hurt or feel heavy?

Properly fitted, no. Discomfort usually comes from clips placed too close together or a set that is too heavy for your own hair. We match the weight to your density, which is the difference between a fitted set and one bought off a shelf.

21. Can you match balayage or highlighted hair?

Yes. We blend the hair by hand to your shade, including roots, highlights and dimensional tones, so the transition is invisible. Colour matching happens in daylight at the consultation rather than from a photograph.

22. How do I care for hair extensions at home?

Use a gentle sulfate free shampoo, detangle from the ends upwards, dry the attachment points fully, and keep heavy oils away from the roots. The Volupropol propolis range is formulated for exactly this and is available at our Makati studio.

23. Do you do hair extensions for men?

For men with hair loss, a hair system is almost always the better answer, because it covers the thinning zone instead of adding length to it. If that is your situation, we would look at a men's hair system instead.

24. Where can I get real human hair extensions in Manila?

Our flagship studio is at The Residences at Greenbelt, Ground Floor, Greenbelt Drive corner Esperanza Street, Makati City. Consultations are free and by appointment, and the hair is colour matched by European trained stylists.

25. Will the wefts show when I part my hair?

Not with correct placement. Wefts sit below the parting zone and lie flat against the head. At the consultation we plan the placement around how you part and wear your hair, which is what prevents them showing. ---
