Hair extension length & density guide
The two numbers that decide how your extensions look are length and density (weight). This guide explains how length is measured, how much hair you need for volume versus length, and how we match density to your own hair.
How length is measured
Extension length is measured in inches from the top of the weft to the tip. As a rough guide: 12–14" sits around the shoulders, 16–18" falls mid-back, and 20–22"+ gives dramatic waist-length results. Your final look also depends on where your natural hairline sits, so we confirm the effect on you in person.
Density and weight
Density is the amount of hair, usually described by weight in grams. More grams means thicker, fuller results. Adding length without enough density can look thin at the ends, so the two are balanced together. For natural everyday volume most clients need a moderate set; for thick, glamorous length you need more grams.
Volume vs length
If your goal is fuller hair at your current length, we focus on density placed through the mid-lengths. If your goal is added length, we blend graduated wefts so the join is seamless and the ends still look full rather than wispy.
Matching your own hair
Great extensions are matched on three things: shade (matched in daylight, including balayage and multi-tonal blends), texture (straight, wavy, curly), and density so the join disappears. Because we make each set to order, we can source hair to match a wide range of shades and textures.
Face shape and placement
Length and layering can be tailored to flatter your face — softer face-framing pieces, more length at the back, or balanced volume all round. This is decided at your fitting, where we cut and style the extensions into your look.
